This is our wonderful dog Lightning (BISS Am/Can Ch Wolf River's Moonlight Ridge WSXM CGC JHD HCT) CHIC, who can be seen across the top of all the pages on our web site.

Lightning wearing his first dog pack on the summit of Soda Mountain
Our 13 week old puppy was captured here during his very first dog pack experience. Although we couldn't resist letting Lightning try on this tiny Trekker pack (now replaced by the Reflector) for these pictures, puppies should never carry weight until they are fully grown.

Lightning is a fine example of the ancient Samoyed breed. He has grown up to be a handsome 55 pound trail dog, and is as sweet as they come. He descends from generations of top working and show dogs. Lightning was bred by Kay Hallberg of Wolf River Samoyeds.

Lightning is also a solid worker on our sled team. He started out running solo, but later was joined by his nearly full brother Nimbus. Together, this powerful team won or placed in in the top half of most of the races they did together. They were the first purebred Samoyeds to win a first placement in an ISDRA (International Sled Dog Racing Association) racing class. They did this two years in a row. They also won the Samoyed Club of America Top Sled Dog Award in all three of the seasons they raced.

Lightning has exceptionally beautiful movement, which is one reason he is such a powerful sled dog. He has only been shown in conformation on a limited basis. Despite this, he had some incredible wins. Several highlights include going Winner's Male at the Samoyed Association of Canada's 2001 National Specialty, and Best In Show at the 2004 Samoyed Club of America National Specialty.
